Lake Wauburg Associate

Lake Wauburg Associates serve RecSports participants at North Shore and South Shore, and provide excellent customer service, manage equipment rentals, assist in loading and unloading at the boat launch, manage gatehouse operations, and operate the Climbing Wall.

Unit Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service
  • Welcome patrons and mange facility access at the Gatehouse
  • Perform headcounts and track daily patron usage
  • Answer incoming phone calls
  • Belay patrons at the climbing wall
  • Assist patrons checking out boats and equipment
  • Provide safety briefings for boat rentals
  • Assist patrons as they load and unload their boats into the lake
  • Serve as a liaison for both shores of Lake Wauburg
  • Enforce park rules, regulations, and policies
  • Complete opening and closing duties
  • Support Lake Wauburg special events and facility reservations
  • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning including emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, picking up palm fronds, etc.
  • Complete daily reports
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for unsafe conditions, remedy the condition, and or notify Supervisors
  • Participate in departmental and area-specific training
  • Ensure patron safety and respond to emergencies
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED in an emergency
  • Assist supervisors and professional staff with additional duties as assigned

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the cornerstones of RecSports service: Accountability, Anticipating needs, Attitude, and Atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and around RecSports facilities
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Interest in outdoor recreation, customer service, and campus involvement
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification OR register to obtain the certification within the first 30 days of employment
  • Work 10-15 hours per week, including one weekend shift. Note that Lake Wauburg is open over academic breaks and holidays
    • Lake Wauburg North Shore is open Wed – Sun (12pm – 6pm)
    • Lake Wauburg South Shore is open Fri (1pm – 6pm) as well as Sat & Sun (12pm – 6pm)
  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings (2nd Tuesday of every month)
  • Attend mandatory trainings and skills clinics
  • Availability to work two shifts per week during operating hours, including weekday, weekend, and over academic breaks

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with the following:

  • Working in an outdoor setting
  • Rock climbing (indoor and/or outdoor)
  • Belaying
  • Maintenance and power tool operation
  • Working at a waterfront/lakeside facility

Waterfront Lifeguard

Lake Wauburg Lifeguards work at North Shore and shifts are 6.5 - 8.5 hours long. Responsibilities include swim area watch, rescue boat operation, and equipment check-out. You must have reliable transportation to apply.

Unit Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Perform all necessary lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR skills as certified by American Red Cross
  • Maintain a current Florida Boater License to operate the Rescue Boat for Lake Watch
  • Observe and enforce all facility rules and regulations
  • Monitor the safety of swimmers and boaters on the lake
  • Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors
  • Monitor access to the waterfront facility to ensure only valid users and their guests are admitted
  • Perform maintenance and cleaning, as needed
  • Attend mandatory departmental Fall training and all monthly meetings/in-services
  • Maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Lake Wauburg Administrative Team
  • Answer phone and inform the public of hours of operation, areas of interest, reservation policies and special events
  • Check chlorine levels in the public drinking water and record at the end of the day
  • Maintain restrooms, clean, empty trash and re-stock daily

  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend mandatory trainings and skills clinics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating a motorized boat

Challenge/Ropes Course Facilitator

Rope Course Facilitator

Lake Wauburg Challenge Course Facilitators serve RecSports participants by fostering experiential teambuilding experiences for groups that are used to promote, enhance, and support the development of healthy group relationships. Facilitators lead groups through virtual team-building, in-person team-building programs (on and off-site), and low and high ropes courses at Lake Wauburg South Shore.

Unit Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service
  • Facilitate activities to promote and enhance individual and group growth, development, and wellness
  • Must participate and demonstrate proficient skills in Low, Alpine Tower, and High Course training
  • Must be able to teach a mini-belay class within one semester of hire
  • Provide pre-course safety briefings
  • Responsible for consistent supervision of small groups of challenge course participants throughout
    entire course
  • Responsible for managing risk and promoting well-being of participants, teammates, and self
  • Support Lake Wauburg special events and facility reservations
  • Track all training, courses facilitated, and keep detailed records of hours
  • Assist with set up, take down, opening, closing, cleaning, and other duties as directed

  • Ability to work harmoniously with the staff, guests and the public
  • Ability to work regular courses, including over weekdays, weekends, and over academic breaks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing exceptional customer service
  • Previous group facilitation experience
  • Comfortable with heights
  • Previous experience with ropes courses, challenge courses, and climbing structures
  • Experience designing and creating ropes/challenge program experiences
  • Certifications such as ACCT Level 1, Level 2, or Manager Certification or site-specific training
