Personal Training

RecSports Personal Training is an independent journey determined by your goals and commitment. Our certified personal trainers provide you with an exercise program and individualized support. We work with everyone from the fitness enthusiast wanting to be pain-free to an athlete training for a specific sport or event. We continually develop our trainers through cutting-edge education, equipment specific training, and hands-on learning.

Client Packet

NOTE: Please use Internet Explorer or Safari web browsers to complete the PDF documents. When complete, download and save a copy to your computer that you will send to us.

NEW CLIENTS (All clients after 8/15/17 are considered new clients)

Step 1: Fill out Client PARQ and Client Packet and email completed forms to trainingcenter@recsports.ufl.edu.

  • You will receive an email within 48 business hours confirming if you are cleared for physical activity or if physician’s clearance is required.
  • If cleared you may proceed to Step 2.
  • If medical clearance is required, we will provide the physical activity clearance form that your primary care physician can complete with directions for submission back to the Training Center.

Step 2: Select and pay for Personal Training here.  

  • IMPORTANT: DO NOT pay for the package until you have received clearance from RecSports administrative staff.

Step 3: Register for your Fitness Assessment Appointment by clicking here!

  • FITNESS ASSESSMENTS ARE REQUIRED BEFORE STARTING PERSONAL TRAINING.
  • IMPORTANT: Fitness Assessment must be complete and payment must be rendered before you can begin personal training sessions.
  • A Personal Trainer will contact you within 48 business hours after your fitness assessment to schedule your initial consultation.

EXISTING RECSPORTS CLIENTS (Any clients that have received a service other than Personal Training after 8/15/2017 i.e. Massage Therapy, Small Group Training and Fitness Assessment)

RENEWING PERSONAL TRAINING CLIENTS (Any client that has received Personal Training after 8/15/2017)

  • IMPORTANT: Payment must be rendered before you will be contacted for a Personal Training Consultation.
  • A Personal Trainer will contact you within 48 business hours after your purchase to schedule your initial consultation, if you are not currently paired with one. 

Health History and  Fitness Assessment

The paperwork includes a Health History Questionnaire – please bring any relevant information regarding medications, injuries or other health-related issues. If you have had any serious injuries or medical conditions you will need to have your doctor approve your participation in a prescribed fitness program – please bring your doctor’s contact information with you. Payment in full is required at the time your paperwork is completed. Cash, check, credit and debit cards are accepted. All Personal Training packages require that you complete an assessment at the Fitness Assessment Center. The assessment will provide the Personal Trainer with baseline fitness and musculo-skeletal information used to individualize your training program. The assessment is included with all Personal Training packages.

Fall 2018 Personal Trainer Preparation Course

This 10 week personal training certification preparation course will prepare participants for the nationally accredited (NCCA) National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certification Exam. This class consists of educational presentations and hands-on activities related to core fitness areas including: exercise program design, human movement science, assessment of posture and function, liability and risk, nutrition, and behavior and communication. Although this course is not for academic credit, it does require a substantial time commitment both inside and outside of class. No prior experience is required.

Fall 2018 Course Information:

  • Dates: EveryTuesday 3:30-5:30pm from August 28th – November 13th
  • Location: Southwest Recreation Center
  • Materials provided:
    • NASM online video lectures and digital textbook chapters
    • NASM Certification Exam study materials (practice exams, flashcards, practice activities, templates)
    • NASM digital library of exercise technique demonstration
    • Live presentations from experienced professionals and opportunities for practical application of content
  •  Price:
    • NASM Certification Course and Exam: $519 paid directly to NASM via https://www.nasm.org (due by August 24th)
    • Course operating costs: $100 paid directly to Recreational Sports via RSConnect.recsports.ufl.edu (due July 27th)
    • Failure to register with RecSports by July 27th will result in forfeit of roster reservation to other students on the waitlist

Application Process:

Apply via e-mail to Hannah Hutchison (HannahHu@recsports.ufl.edu) by Friday, July 13th. Applicants will receive a decision by Friday, July 20th.

1. In your application email, include the following information:

  • First and last name
  • Year in school (1st, 2nd, etc.)  
  • Major
  • UFID
  • Phone number
  • Number of academic course credits being taken during Summer 2018 
  • Confirm availability for ALL class days
  • Expected graduation date

2. Attach a resume and single page letter of interest 

  • Keep your application materials unique and distinct!
  • The letter of interest should explain both why you are interested in the course and why you believe you are a qualified applicant
