Have you heard the news? We're hosting a new Small Group Training format to improve your running performance in prep for our annual 5k, Midnight Fun Run (MFR)! Don't be fooled though, this Run Your Way to 5k class will require a lot more than just running.
Being a goal-based athlete
“For someone who has never ran a 5k before, this will give them the ability to work towards something that is completely out of their comfort zone,” Alivia Perrone, the instructor of the class, told me. “The moment you leave your comfort zone, you are able to grow.”
The short-term goal of the class is to improve racing speed or endurance. The long-term goal is to improve your overall fitness and to continue setting more challenging goals for yourself!
The instructors will be asking participants to create SMART (Specific, Measurable, Adjustable, Realistic and Time-Sensitive) goals to track through the semester. Alivia hopes this goal-oriented mentality will translate into your daily life. By accomplishing your SGT class goal you will see your capabilities and understand how to effectively plan out your visions!
When asked about the New Year’s Resolutions craze, Alivia admitted to me, “I’m more of a fan of ‘New Year, Better Me.’ Goals should make you grow further in who you already are.”
The reason we run
At RecSports, we love to encourage running because it improves heart health! Studies have also shown that running is one of the best ways to prevent disease, boost confidence, relieve stress and improve your mental health – it’s quite the package deal!
