The SEC gator football team may have taken a L this weekend, but our sport clubs sure didn’t. This year our club crew team had one of their biggest accomplishments ever. They won 1st place at the Head of the Hooch, one of the world’s largest rowing regattas. Our gators took home the win facing a total of 62 teams, 10 of them being in NCAA Division 1.
The women’s varsity 8 boat was the biggest win of the weekend. In the same event, four other varsity 8’s finished in the top 13 in a field of 32 teams. Our cricket team made their way to Ft. Lauderdale with 14 players, finishing as runner up.
Men’s volleyball competed in the FSU Fall Tournament in Tallahassee. Although they were in enemy territory, they finished in third place overall. The club fencing teams attended the Da’Bull Touch - The Fifth Touch, a fencing tournament in Tampa. Twenty players competed and many came out with success. Santiago Clavijo Gomez ended in 7th place in senior mixed foil. Daniel Jutras was awarded 1st place in under mixed sabre and 2nd place in senior mixed sabre. Stephen Norton tied for 3rd in under mixed sabre.
Our women’s soccer team traveled to Winston-Salem, NC to play in the Region II NIRSA Soccer Tournament. Our team of 23 sadly lost to Georgia and UNC, but beat Wake Forest.
Great work to all of our teams on this busy weekend, stay tuned for next weekend’s wrap-up!
