Collegiate Road Season in the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference officially began in February with Team Florida Cycling hosting the Swamp Classic 2016. The team had 27 of its riders gear up, eleven of whom had never raced before.

Seasoned rider and graduate student Derek Schanze took 2nd in the Collegiate Men's A road race on Saturday. Patrick Shea took 4th in Men's C, and freshman Josh Berry took 2nd in the Men's D while Scott Kovacs joined him on the podium taking 5th in the same race. In the Women's B road race, Fran Comparini and Maria Hyde shared the podium taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

On Sunday, the famous Downtown Gainesville crit drew a great crowd. Undergraduate student Sebastian Morfin, another experienced rider, took 4th place in the Collegiate Men's A crit with an exciting sprint finish. Josh Berry took 2nd again in his Men's C category, even after sustaining a broken collarbone. In the women's field, Maria Hyde came in 4th in the Women's B crit with Sylvie Shawn Hyman coming in right behind her taking 5th place.

A couple weeks later TF had another successful weekend in the SECCC. Graduate engineer student Derek Schanze took the win at the Auburn Flyers Race Weekend Men's A Road Race on Saturday, crossing the line 3 minutes ahead of the chase. Mackenzie Koth took 3rd place in the Women's A Road Race. TF also swept the Men's D podium at the road race and on Sunday, Derek Schanze took 5th in the Men's A Crit.
