SWRC Expansion
The Division of Student Affairs announced in Spring 2008 that the Department of Recreational Sports received $16.3 million of the Capital Improvement Trust Funds to expand the Southwest Recreation Center (SWRC). The project is entering into the construction stage.
PLEASE NOTE: The SWRC entrance has been relocated to the east side of the building.
The Southwest Recreation Center Expansion will include:
- The Expansion will include 40,000 sq. ft. of new space and 8,300 sq. ft. of renovated space.
- The original cardio portion of the recreation center will be renovated into an Athletic & Personal Training Center (APTC). Personal training, fitness assessment, massage therapy and athletic training services will be provided in the APTC.
- The first floor of the Expansion will include 10,000 sq. ft. of cardio and strength space, 5,000 sq. ft. of administrative offices and a 2,100 square foot activity room.
- The second floor of the Expansion will have a 1/9-mile track with three lanes. Inside the track will be an additional 5,220 sq. ft. of space for cardio equipment.
- The front entrance will include a glass curtain wall allowing views from Hull Rd. of participants exercising inside the recreation center.
- The project is expected to earn a Gold LEED certification.
- Recreational Sports plans to open the completed Expansion at the beginning of the fall 2010 semester. News and updates regarding the expansion will be available on this Web site.
