In 1918, the University YMCA purchased 20 acres of land and water at Lake Wauburg as a recreation center for University of Florida students. This was before the road across Paynes Prairie was completed. The journey to the lake took about a half-day on a winding road of mostly sand with the danger of getting stuck in the sand and mud.

Today, you can make your own splash at Lake Wauburg. After all, what’s a Florida education without aquatic recreation?

Lake Wauburg’s North Park and South Shore are open to current UF Students, Faculty, Staff and Affiliates with active Gator 1 Cards.

A Gator 1 Card holder may bring up to 4 guests.

Guests are to arrive in a vehicle with the Gator 1 Card holder or in the next immediate vehicle.

The Gator 1 Card holder must remain with their guests.
