How to Become a TRiP Leader
- Want to learn the skills to guide others in the wilderness?
- Want to develop your leadership in a unique way?
- Want to work for CORE’s Travel and Recreation Program (TRiP)?
- Two $160 CORE Grant awards are available to help fund the Outdoor Leadership Course. The CORE Grant is established to help ease barriers to participation in outdoor recreation. Students must demonstrate financial need in order to qualify for the grant, and the grant will only be applied if students are accepted into the course.
Applications for the CORE Grant award are due by Monday, November 16th, along with a cover letter and resume.

You will gain competence in group management, risk management and technical outdoor skills through interactive experiences in the classroom and in the field. Upon successful course completion, you will be eligible to hold a TRiP Leader position for the Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE).
This course will meet once per week for 3 hours: Time and day TBD
There is an option to receive up to 3 UF credit hours.

Upon review of your application, you may be asked to attend a group interview on November 21st anywhere from 9am-5pm. Please keep this date free as it is critical to the interviewing process.
Course Cost Includes:
Weekly training classes (one day per week for 3 hours) TBD
Florida Outdoor Recreation Association (FLORA) Conference on Zoom
Mountain Bike Training
Basic Water Safety Certification: Date TBD
You are required to attend weekly TRiP meetings once a week for one hour, day and time TBD
You are required to attend all trainings and certifications listed above in order to enroll in the course.
Course Cost Does NOT Include:
A Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification must be obtained outside of class to be eligible to be hired as a TRiP Leader. We will be hosting a WFR for a discounted price in May break 2021 for any students that currently do not have it and that will be taking the Outdoor Leadership Course in Spring.
