Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) Grant

Make the outdoors accessible to more students

CORE Trips have been shown to decrease stress levels, increase feelings of belonging, and help contribute to the development of a strong sense of self. The Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) Grant provides $200 per student to participate in a CORE Trip. This fund aspires to eliminate financial barriers for students who wish to participate in an impactful trip experience.

CHALLENGES

  • Trips are an additional expense for students, outside of the programs and services that are included in their student fees
  • Students have reported that the price of trips is out of their price range
  • Valuable trip experience should not be limited to those with financial means

Opportunities

  • The CORE Grant hopes to eliminate financial barriers for students in need who wish to participate in an impactful experience
  • Trips can be one of the most impactful student experiences; for many students it is their first experience feeling immersed in nature
  • Students report reduced stress levels, increased sense of belonging, self-awareness, global awareness, and a heightened connection to nature
  • As a result of valuable trip experiences students feel a better connection to the Gator Nation
