Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) Grant
Make the outdoors accessible to more students
- The Center for Outdoor Recreation and Education (CORE) Grant will be providing up to $2,000 per academic year to students who wish to participate in a CORE Trip. CORE Trips have been shown to decrease stress levels, increase feelings of belonging, and help contribute to the development of a strong sense of self. The Department of Recreational Sports (RecSports) believes that these factors, in addition to physical activity, are key components of a successful student. The CORE Grant hopes to eliminate financial barriers for students in need who wish to participate in impactful trip experiences.
CHALLENGES
- Trips are an additional expense for students, outside of the programs and services that are included in their student fees
- Students have reported that the price of trips is out of their price range
- Valuable trip experience should not be limited to those with financial means
Opportunities
- The CORE Grant hopes to eliminate financial barriers for students in need who wish to participate in an impactful experience
- Trips can be one of the most impactful student experiences; for many students it is their first experience feeling immersed in nature
