COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service is an important opportunity for our RecSports team members to give back to the Gainesville and UF community. As a department, it allows us to work together in a different setting to give back and volunteer. Over the years we have contributed to the following events or organization in our community:

  • Boys & Girls Club
  • GRACE Marketplace
  • Humane Society
  • Jungle & Friends
  • Keeping Alachua Beautiful
  • Momentum Project
  • St. Francis Homeless Shelter
  • UF Field & Fork Pantry
  • UF Project Makeover

STUDENT LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The Student Leadership Council provides an opportunity for up to 16 student employees from each RecSports unit to directly impact department-wide programs and events offered through Talent Management. This council meets twice monthly throughout the academic year to work on projects related to the student employee experience including special events, community service, training and development, and departmental procedures. This is a paid position and applications are typically open in Fall and Spring. Questions or interest can be directed to Kaleigh Gabriel, Coordinator for Talent Management, at kaleighagabriel@ufl.edu .

JAMES A. BRYAN III STUDENT DEVELOPMENT GRANT

The James A. Bryan III Student Development Grant is made possible from Mr. Bryan’s generous contributions to the Department of Recreational Sports. The vision of the Bryan Student Development Fund is to contribute to the personal development of UF students by providing funding to obtain professional certifications, attend national or regional extramural sport tournaments or officiating camps, as well as support attendance at national, regional and state conferences, workshops, and symposia by graduate and undergraduate students.

Applications are open year-round and information is communicated to you by the Talent Management team. The link to the James A. Bryan III Student Development Grant Application is found here.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Recreational Sports Board of Directors is an opportunity to gain professional experience by working alongside faculty and staff to do the following:

  • Propose policies to the President of the University regarding departmental operations
  • Review and recommend funding, facilities, staffing and services
  • Review major departmental programs prior to implementation.

Students can serve either a one or two year term, and applications are released in the Spring. View the current list of Board members here.

INTERVIEW COMMITTEES

Current student employees have the opportunity to sit on interview committees for new hires and help facilitate candidate interviews to learn what it is like on the other side. Students who sit on interview committees work alongside Professional Staff Members and gain skills to become familiar in future hiring and interview settings.
