Group Fitness Instructor

Group Fitness instructors serve RecSports participants by providing over 160 fun, effective, and safe fitness classes per week! Group Fitness Instructors advance the mission of RecSports by preparing and facilitating exercise experiences within six different formats including: Cycle, Mind & Body, Dance, Outdoors, Strength, and Cardio.

Area Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Keep current in all certifications required
  • Arrive to work 15 minutes prior to your class prepared and ready to teach
  • Stay 15 minutes after class ends to answer any questions participants may have and to ensure that all equipment is placed in its respective area
  • Ensure that your classes are safe and effective for all fitness levels
  • Know your scope of practice and act accordingly
  • Keep class rosters private
  • Track registered and standby participant counts
  • Be courteous and helpful to all individuals you assist
    • Please refer participants to either the Program Assistants if you are unsure of related questions or concerns
  • Know and enforce all Recreational Sports policies and procedures
  • Attend all mandatory monthly meetings and continuing education sessions
  • Act and dress professional and responsibly
  • Complete peer evaluations each semester
  • First responder in emergency situations
  • Communicate any problems and/or concerns to your supervisor as soon as possible

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the cornerstones of RecSports service: Accountability, Anticipating needs, Attitude, and Atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and around RecSports facilities
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors

Requirements/Qualifications

  • No Previous Experience/No Certification:
    • Required to take the RecSports Group Fitness Instructor Training Course (audition and interview required for course admittance)
    • Obtain a nationally recognized certification
    • CPR/AED & First Aid Certification required (can be obtained once hired)
  • Previous Experience/Certification:
    • Nationally recognized certification
    • Minimum one-year experience
    • A fitness-based resume and two references must be attached with application
    • Upon review of materials the applicant may be invited for an audition and interview which will determine hiring
    • CPR/AED & First Aid Certification required (can be obtained once hired)

Personal Trainer

Personal Trainer

Personal Trainers serve RecSports participants by designing individualized training programs tailored to the health and fitness goals of their clients. Personal Trainers advance the mission of RecSports by providing accountability, exercise prescription, and motivation to aid their clients in achieving more!

Area Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Keep current in all certifications required
  • Arrive to work 15 minutes prior to your client, prepared and ready to train
  • Stay 15 minutes after client to ensure that all equipment is placed in its respective area
  • Ensure that your training sessions are safe and effective for your client
  • Know your scope of practice and act accordingly
  • Keep client information private
  • Track client sessions
  • Know and enforce all Recreational Sports policies and procedures
  • Attend all mandatory monthly meetings, continuing education sessions, and mentor groups
  • Act and dress professionally and responsibly
  • Participate in end of semester evaluations conducted by supervisor
  • First responder in emergency situations
  • Communicate any problems and/or concerns to your supervisor as soon as possible

  • Successful completion of the interview process including the mock client audition

Previous Experience/Certification:

  • Nationally recognized certification
  • Minimum one year experience
  • A fitness-based resume and two references must be attached with application
  • Upon review of materials the applicant may be invited for the interview process which will determine hiring

Additional Requirements:

  • Current Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid or willing to obtain within first 30 days of employment
  • All personal trainers are required to work a minimum of two shifts (5-6 hours) in the In Motion Center
  • Complete and maintain UF online certifications

    WELLNESS ASSOCIATE

    Wellness Associate

    Wellness Associates serve RecSports participants by scheduling and performing fitness assessments for clients. Wellness Associates advance the mission of RecSports by assisting and performing fitness assessments to promote wellness, health, and fitness.

    Area Specific Job Responsibilities

    • Assist with the daily operation of the InMotion Center
    • Schedule and perform assessments for clients
    • Enforce all organizational policies and ensure participants conduct themselves in an orderly manner
      • Report all problem users to the Operations Supervisor or your direct supervisor
    • Record hourly participation counts
    • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
    • Maintain the cleanliness and order of the InMotion Center

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • ¬†First Aid, CPR, AED certification or ability to attain it within first week of employment
    • Hold a personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA, or NASM
    • Required to work a minimum of 4 hours per week
    • Experience and interest in the fitness field is preferred
    • Employees must be students or OPS employees of Recreational Sports
    • Appraisers are required to attend a 3 hour training session as well as a 3 hour practice period prior to
      being placed on the schedule
    • An evaluation will be performed after the first week of work to ensure competency of job
      responsibilities and assessments
    • Complete and maintain UF online certifications
