Safety Instructor

The RecSports Risk Management team serves the entire RecSports department by ensuring the safety of participants by conducting weekly inspections of spaces, conducting safety audits of student employees to assess knowledge related to emergency response, and instructing CPR/AED and First Aid trainings for RecSports student employees and the UF community.

Area Specific Job Responsibilities

• Teach departmental American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid courses
• Maintain current American Red Cross basic and instructor certifications
• Dress professionally and act responsibly
• Arrive at work a minimum of 15 minutes before scheduled class prepared and ready to teach
• Stay a minimum of 15 minutes after class ends to answer questions, put away equipment, and rearrange the room
• Communicate any problems and/or concerns about: equipment or supplies that are missing, broken or ready for replacement; technology malfunctioning; difficult students and/or personal issues
• Coordinate with and assist other RecSports employees in the enforcement of RecSports policies and procedures while being courteous and helpful to individual students and classes
• Maintain current instructor certifications
• Participate in the facilitation of the Safety Audit program for all areas of the department
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

• Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
• Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
• Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
• Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
• Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
• Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
• Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures

Requirements/Qualifications

• University of Florida student
• Contribute 5 hours/week (includes some evening and weekend hours)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Current Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
• Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor or CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Instructor or willing to obtain within 30 days

Safety Associate

• Conduct departmental Safety Inspections for all RecSports designated facilities
• Replenish, organize, and track inventory of First Aid Items
• Ensure proper function, access, and tracking of AEDs at all RecSports designated facilities
• Participate in the facilitation of the Safety Audit program for all areas of the department
• Assist in maintaining departmental CPR certification database of all RecSports student employees
• Assist with the development of continuing education modules based on safety risk management
• Assist with designated Risk Management projects
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Risk Management Administrative Team
