Safety Instructor

The RecSports Risk Management team serves the entire RecSports department by ensuring the safety of participants by conducting weekly inspections of spaces, conducting safety audits of student employees to assess knowledge related to emergency response, and instructing CPR/AED and First Aid trainings for RecSports student employees and the UF community.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

• Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
• Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
• Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
• Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
• Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
• Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
• Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures

Area Specific Job Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning and set-up of departmental CPR/AED/First Aid/BBP training
• Cooperate with and assist other RecSports employees in the enforcement of RecSports policies and procedures while being courteous and helpful to individual students and classes
• Dress professionally and act responsibly
• Arrive at work a minimum of 15 minutes before scheduled class prepared and ready to teach
• Stay a minimum of 15 minutes after class ends to answer questions, put away equipment, and rearrange the room
• Communicate any problems and/or concerns about: equipment or supplies that are missing, broken or ready for replacement; technology malfunctioning; difficult students and/or personal issues
• Maintain current instructor certifications
• Participate in the Safety Audit program for all areas of the department
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Safety Risk Management & Aquatics Coordinator or Graduate Assistant

Requirements/Qualifications

• University of Florida student
• Contribute 15-18 hrs/week
• Efficient in use of Microsoft Office
• Current Certification in one of the following: American Heart Association BLS Instructor, Heartsaver First Aid Instructor; American Red Cross Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor, CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Instructor
• American Heart Association BLS Instructor Trainer (Preferred)
• American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguarding, Lay Responder Instructor Trainer (Preferred)

• Inspect and replenish first aid kits around the department
• Assist with departmental AED, facility and field inspections
• Assist with designated Risk Management projects
• Assist with the development of In-Service training modules based on safety risk management for RecSports in Motion Play Book
• Participate in the implementation of a Safety Audit program for all areas of the department
• Maintain certification spread sheets and notify areas of team members expiration dates
• Participate in the planning, registration and set-up of departmental CPR/AED/First Aid/BBP
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Safety Risk Management & Aquatics Assistant Director or Graduate Assistant

• American Heart Association BLS for the Healthcare Provider Instructor (Preferred)
